Snapchat is a social media app that combines all the best parts of texting, Facebooking and Instagraming. This app is used to allow friends to communicate quickly through pictures and videos with captions.

Only friends are allowed to see these pictures which they disappear seconds after they are seen. The user is allowed to set how long the other person sees the picture and is notified immediately if the other person screenshots the photo.

Snapchat Functions

Snapchat has a function which is called “My Story,” which lets everyone on their friends list see what they have been up to recently. The pictures on peoples’ stories stay up for 24 hours before those also disappear. Who the user shares their photos with is very exclusive. The user has to have either the person’s phone number or their specific user names in order to be friends with them.

Snapchat allows you to:

  • Send pictures and videos to specific friends quickly
  • Add captions to the pictures and videos to allow for quick conversation
  • Use the “My Story” function to share pictures and videos with all friends
  • Direct messages to friends
  • Send money to friends
  • Be notified if someone has screenshot their picture
  • Be notified of which friends have seen their photos and messages

Snapchat lets the user see when people have opened their snapchats and which people have seen their stories. Snapchat also has a function that allows people to send messages to each other almost like Facebook messenger or texting. They have recently created a function that allows users to send money to one another quickly and carefully as well.

Snapchat for Local Businesses

Snapchat could be useful to a local business because they could use the “My Story” function in order to share products. They could also use it to share deals and show pictures or videos of their business. Users have to specifically friend the business in order to see their story and this allows them to know exactly how many people are following them on Snapchat. The business can use this to know what is working and what is not in terms of advertising. The business is then allowed the chance to figure out different ways to market their products to reach more consumers.

The app allows businesses to reach their customers in a casual way. Most people have their phones on them at all times and receive notifications from Snapchat. This means that consumers will immediately be able to see any post from the business. Getting alerts about products and deals may persuade consumers to visit the business to look or shop for their products.
