Marketing Your Business with Pinterest

Pinterest is the hot new social media tool for your business and is a great way to market a service or product and drive traffic to your website.

Have you considered marketing your business with Pinterest?

Pinterest is the hot new social media tool for marketing your business. It has been described by Social Media Examiner as a visual search engine and is a great way to market a service or product and drive traffic to your website. Understanding how Pinterest works can make this platform a successful part of your digital marketing program.

According to Dreamgrow, Pinterest is like an online photo album. The albums, or “pin boards” as they are called, contain various pictures and can be browsed by “pinners.” If someone sees a picture they like, they “repin” it to their board from the Pinterest page. The user can click on the picture to enlarge it. Another click on the photo will bring the user to the website where it originated.

Sharing “Pins”

As with Facebook posts and Twitter tweets, Pinterest pins can be shared. Kissmetrics points out that Pinterest pins are 100 times more shareable than a retweet that averages just 1.4 percent. The half-life of a pin is 1,600 times longer than a Facebook post.

Pinterest has a new feature for businesses called “Buyable Pins.” This feature gives small retail businesses a unique way to get their products in front of Pinterest’s users.

According to Kissmetrics, there has been a 27 percent increase in the past year of Fortune 500 companies such as Apple, ExxonMobil and Walmart in using Pinterest. With some 70 million users, shouldn’t you consider using Pinterest as a marketing tool for your business?

Pinterest marketing ideas

Here are some ways of marketing your business with Pinterest from Social Media Examiner.

  1. Selling products with Pinterest

Pinterest users aren’t just looking for creative inspiration on the network. They’re also ready to buy. Make sure you include a price tag in the pins you create or repin. After all, Pinterest drives more referral traffic than Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn combined. More importantly, Pinterest pins with prices get 36 percent more likes than those without.

  1. Add pins to newsletters

Include a screenshot of your Pinterest pin in your business newsletter. Place a clickable link on the image that links to the pin. When newsletter readers click on the image, they are taken to that pin on Pinterest here they can browse your pinboards.

  1. Pin blog posts

After you publish a blog post on your site, pin it onto your board. Make sure to include a brief summary of the article, a relevant high-quality image and a link back to the blog post itself. Remember that data visuals or illustrations in your content are informative and will encourage visitors to click through to your blog post to find out more. This is another advantage of marketing your business with Pinterest.

  1. Cross-promote

Choose something fun or engaging that fits a current season, holiday or trend and cross-promote it on your other social media platforms – maybe a new board you created or a recent pin. Some ideas you can use to let fans or subscribers know your brand has Pinterest profile include: Tweet about Pinterest two or three times a week; post on Facebook once a week or once every two weeks; send an email mentioning Pinterest and feature a Pinterest widget at least once a month.
